The setting sun cast long shadows across the dorm room, but the room felt dark and oppressive. He sank onto his bed, the mattress yielding under his weight. He’d lost his appetite, and the world seemed to have lost its color. Each breath was a struggle.

His journal, once a sanctuary, now lay open on the desk, the pages exposed. His roommate, Ben, had been unusually quiet, studying him with a curious intensity.
